Robert Duncan, a central figure in the post-war San Francisco Renaissance, returned to the Bay Area, his birthplace, in 1946. Closely involved with art and artists, he called his concept of verse “grand collage”. Jess and Duncan lived together from 1951 to his death in 1988.
