Continuing his play with the ambiguous properties of artworks and human identities, Carter has taken on the bust form in the tradition it occupies between store mannequin and classic Greco-Roman sculpture.  Interested in reproduction and the way objects can substitute human presence and eventually act in the place of other objects, the artist collages quotations and re-enactments into new drawings, paintings and sculpture. Carter has exhibited internationally with recent exhibitions in New York, Paris, Vienna and London.

Carter’s full-length feature film, Maladies, starring Catherine Keener and James Franco debuted in 2013 at the Sundance Film festival. His film Erased James Franco 2009 was screened at the Tate Modern, NY MoMA, San Francisco’s SFMOMA and the Castro Theater.
