John Zurier - Watercolors
John Zurier - Watercolors
April 10th through May 4th, 2013
Opening Reception: Thursday April 11, 5:30- 7:30 p.m.
Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce an exhibition of new watercolors by painter John Zurier, marking his tenth solo exhibition in over 26 years of representation by the gallery.
The works are the result of inspiration and observation on travels to Iceland and Scandinavia. Zurier has made several working expeditions to Iceland and has explored the varied, often stark terrain where ice, thermal springs and waterfalls coexist. Although his painting practice is essentially concerned with abstraction, and with properties of light color and materials, the atmospheric quality of his painting technique is informed by landscape, weather and geography. The macrocosm of light, water and earth finds an intimate, poetic reinterpretation in his combination of light, water and pigment.
John Zurier lives and works in Berkeley, CA and has exhibited his works regularly in New York, London, Spain and Belgium. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010, and was invited to show in the 2002 Whitney Biennial, the 2008 Gwangju Biennial, the 2010 California Biennial (Orange County Museum of Art) and the 2012 Sao Paulo Biennial. His paintings are represented in the collections of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Berkeley Art Museum, the Oakland Museum of California and the University of California, San Francisco.
