Tomas Nakada - Diaspora
February 11 - March 21, 2023
Reception: Thursday, February 12, 5:30-7:30pm
Gallery Paule Anglim is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Tomas Nakada.
For several years, the artist has dedicated himself to an oil painting technique on wood panels, refining the play of opacity and luminosity in delicately layered surfaces.
Although primarily abstract, Nakada’s ongoing body of work makes use of cell patterns he observes microscopically. Nakada’s imagery develops from a sense of time compression where he references, within a single image, cell growth and movement. Following each pulse of migration and consolidation, the process repeats itself. These cycles of expansion and stationary growth suggest a design of radiating waves and create a meditative metaphor for the progression of time. The waves, defined by faint dots, form a delicate graphic structure within his luminescent color field.
Tomas Nakada has had solo exhibitions at the Newport Harbor Art Museum (now Orange County Museum) and at the Richmond Art Center, both in California. He has both a M.F.A. and a B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute.
