rico solinas
Rico Solinas’ ongoing project to capture all the art museums in the world in this unique format of painting on saws is, to date, a 15 year project. Painting on saws is an American folk art tradition which Solinas has taken up with humor and irony. The buildings are distorted to fit the configuration of the saw, transforming the hard lines of the architecture into softer more organic forms with subtle hints of surrealism. Some are painted in plein-air, while others are painted from photographs; all are painted outdoors and subject to the elements. The wind blows dirt and debris onto the surface which becomes part of the composition on the found object.
