Although Richard Overstreet lives and works primarily in France, he keeps a studio in the Bay Area where he was raised and has exhibited his work for over 30 years. Since the early 70’s his work has been regularly shown in both the U.S. and Europe.
Overstreet is also an acknowledged film-maker, practicing since the 1950’s. His experience with film and photography perhaps affords him a greater sensitivity to the subtleties of light, darkness and the suggestion of depth. His shadowy forms hover between abstraction and representational objects or figures.
Richard Overstreet has been the recipient of the 1985 SECA Award from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
